Tips for Chaining Up Commercial Truck Tires in Bad Weather
There are lots of YouTube videos and articles out there instructing how to chain in perfect weather. The reality though is that there will often be times when you will need to chain up in some nasty weather in less than ideal conditions. This article will give you some tips as well as tools to use to help get the job done in these situations.
Here is a pretty good video outlining the general process.
1. Remove the mud flaps if they come off easily.
2. Pull your chains out and make sure they are in the right direction.
3. Fold in half as shown in the video.
4. Place the chains over the outside tire then fold the other half over the inside tire.
5. Reach behind the back tires and connect the chains, then connect the chains in the front.
6. Get in the truck and roll over the chains.
7. Connect the middle set of chains.
8. Disconnect and reconnect the inside and outside chains, lock them tight.
9. Add bungie cords if you have them.
